  • SCSB was established in Shanghai in 1915.

  • SCSB was a private bank founded by a famous banker, Mr. K. P. Chen.

¡@Business Development ( 1915 ~ 1926 )
  • Due to the honest management and continual innovations, SCSB became an important and nationwide commercial bank in twelve years.

  • Important innovations:
    1. Started one-dollar savings account

    2. Initiated silver dollars and taels coexistence

    3. Advocated credit with objectives

    4. Originated railroad freight documentary

    5. Developed international exchange

    6. Established China Travel Agency

    7. Emphasized career training
 

Great Development ( 1927 ~ W.W. II )
  • In 1927, SCSB began to establish one branch after another. ?In 1934, SCSB expanded aggressively and had 111 branches at its heyday.? At the same time, deposit was increased a lot and SCSB became one of the largest private banks in China.
  • Important innovations:
    1. Pioneered ¡§Unit System¡¨

    2. Advocated agricultural loans

    3. Started salt industry loans

    4. Started small loans secured by credit

    5. Extended industrial and commercial loans

    6. Expanded trust business

    7. Developed insurance services
 

¡@Contributions during the W.W.II
  • During the W.W. II, SCSB was devoted to consolidating the economy.? In order to solve the financial problems, the founder, Mr. K. P. Chen represented the government and negotiated with U.S.A. about the loan.? Some agreements were made:
    1936--Siliver Agreement
    1939--Tung Oil Loan Agreement
    1940--Tien Tin Loan Agreement
    Mr. K. P. Chen made outstanding contributions in stabilizing the monetary system and raising funds for war of resistance.

 

¡@Business Resumed in Taiwan ( 1949 ~ 1982 )
  • The Bank accompanied the government to Taiwan and prepared aggressively for the resumption of business.
  • In 1954, the Bank was allowed to re-open its head office in Taipei.

  • In 1964, the Bank was approved to restart operation. ?In 1965, the Bank officially resumed operations in Guanqian Road, Taipei, which was the only private bank from the Mainland.

  • In 1976, Mr. Chu Ju-Tang succeeded Chairman Mr. K. P. Chen.
  • During the resumption, the Bank acted conservative.? Till 1982, the Bank only set up 5 branches, Business Department, International Department, Savings Department, Kaohsiung Branch, and Cheng Chung Branch.
 

¡@Speedy Development ( 1983 till now )
  • In 1983, under the leadership of Mr. Hung-Ching Yung, SCSB started another milestone.? From then on, SCSB has aggressively established branches, upgraded computer facilities, and provided the public with quality and efficient financial services.? In recent years, SCSB¡¦s capital stock increased and operation scope also widened dramatically. SCSB has become a strong financial force in the local industry.? To fulfill the social responsibilities, SCSB also founded the SCSB Cultural & Educational Foundation in 1990, which carried out programs geared toward socio-civic activities and charity events.? All these efforts have won much praise from the public.

  • 1993 -- "Outstanding Overall Performance" by VISA International

  • 1994 -- "Most Card Issuance Growth" by VISA International

  • 1997 -- Rated top "£\£\£\" among 450 banks in 40 emerging markets by Euromoney
